The Nose Implant and Rhinoplasty
Cosmetic surgeons have performed nose jobs for decades. Advancements in technology have changed little about the rhinoplasty procedure. Along with the nose job, the nose implant has made it possible for patients to receive a smooth, refined profile.
The new nose implant is used during rhinoplasty procedures to sculpt or smooth the surface of the nose. Depending on the chosen result, the surgeon will sculpt the nose implant prior to inserting it into the area of the nose where it will reside.
Because some patients have a deviated septum, the surgeon will generally correct it along with the addition of the nose implant. Thus, the surgeon is able to achieve an aesthetically pleasing nose.
One might say getting a nose job is an act of vanity. But for some, it is more a corrective procedure than cosmetic. The nose implant itself can be used to reconstruct areas of the septum and nose that were damaged or broken in accidents.
The nose implant technology offers surgeons the ability to streamline the nose's profile in a manner that is easier to achieve than with scraping and sculpting of bone material. Materials that are primarily used to construct a nose implant include solid silicone and donated cartilage.
While the effect of the nose implant might be pleasing, as with any foreign object, there are side effects. Because of the area of the face the nose implant is placed, it can slip out because of daily movements while eating, sneezing or rubbing. It is simple, however, to reposition the nose implant and is an in-office procedure.
