Like other facial features, the jaw needs to be shaped nicely, symmetrical, and proportionate with the rest of the face. Although jaw augmentation is commonly requested by Caucasian patients, it is rarely necessary for Asians. The classic ethnic features include a strong, well-defined jawline. However, many Asians and, less commonly, Caucasians, have disproportionately large jaws. This can affect the facial shape, especially if the jaw is broad and the rest of the face is narrow.
Jaw reduction is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess tissue, and sculpt the jawline to create aesthetically pleasing contours. It can correct an asymmetrical, misshapen, or disproportionately large jaw, creating a more pleasing facial harmony. This procedure may be used alone, or in combination with other facial enhancement procedures to address multiple concerns.
Dr. Nguyen has over 20 years of experience, and a sterling reputation for achieving excellent results. He is keenly aware of the importance of maintaining ethnic identity, and enhancing each patient's unique beauty. During your consultation, he will take time to discuss and understand your goals, the degree of correction that you want, and the overall facial appearance that you are hoping to achieve. He tailors each procedure to the needs and wants of each patient.
Before the surgery begins, anesthesia will be administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Incisions are made, inside of the mouth, along the lower portion of the cheek, so there is not a visible scar. The surgeon works through these incisions to sculpt the mandible (jawbone) to the desired size and shape. The incisions are closed with internal, absorbable sutures. When the procedure is complete, you will rest for about an hour in our recovery area before you are alert enough to return home.
You can look forward to a more subtle, symmetrical, and attractive jawline. This procedure can correct the appearance of a flat, square, or angular face, which is often caused by a disproportionately large jaw. Women find that their appearances are more feminine with a reduced and contoured jawline. Our patients are generally very pleased with their new facial shapes. The results of jaw reduction surgery are permanent.
